Reconnecting The Colorado

One of the most disruptive things for fish that have ever been done to the upper Colorado was the construction of Windy Gap Reservoir. The dam at Windy Gap, just outside of Granby, proved to be an impossible barrier for fish and buglife (macro invertebrates). Fish movement patterns that had been in place since the Colorado began flowing were disrupted, but that’s about to be reversed.

TU, working in conjunction with our partners, has succeeded in our efforts to create the Windy Gap Bypass, also known as the Colorado River Connectivity Channel to right this wrong! The Bypass will go around the dam and allow fish and buglife to reconnect above and below the dam. This is a clear win for the River!
