Monthly Water Science Lab For Kids

Here are a few pictures from the first Grand County Water Information Network (GCWIN) water science lab for children on March 26, 2021. This wonderful program is held at the Headwaters Center and is sponsored by a grant from this Trout Unlimited Headwaters Chapter.

Children colored trout while learning about our cold water fishery, experienced a water chemistry station, a watershed education station and a tour of the River Journey museum. Thanks to the GCWIN staff for making this such a success.

Future classes will be held at the Headwaters Center in April, May and June on the fourth Friday of each month from 9:30 to noon. How cool is that?

HEADWATERS RIVER JOURNEY SPEAKER SERIES

Human Impact on the Headwaters by Kirk Klancke

Listen and learn to the Headwaters Center series addressing issues of water conservation and river preservation to raise awareness among the community, water ecology experts, and decision makers.

This talk explores the start of the Fraser River on top of Berthoud Pass. It is far above any human influence and because of this we can see what a pristine stream looks like. Kirk discusses the impacts that humans have as the river flows downstream and what these impacts mean to the river. We will follow the effects of the water down the Colorado River. Along the way we will discuss what actions have been taken to mitigate these negative impacts as well as what actions we can take.
