Stonefly Study in Colorado Headwaters

  • Windy Gap Granby, CO, 80446 United States (map)

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to collect Salmonfly samples across the Upper Colorado Basin. I am looking forward to launching this field season shortly. Please find the project details and sign-up instructions below:

When: Fieldwork will take place from June 23 to June 27. Sampling will occur daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You do not need to be available for the entire field season to sign up.

Where: We will meet at the Windy Gap Wildlife Viewing Area each day. This will serve as our central location for consolidating gear and carpooling.

What to bring: Please bring your own waders, boots, food, and water for a full day in the field.

What to expect:

  - Colorado River: We will sample at six sites between Windy Gap and Kremmling. We will collect six replicate samples at each site which will be bottled for lab taxonomy.
  - Tributaries: We will also sample Willow Creek, between Windy Gap and Lake Granby, and two sites on the Fraser River. These sites will use different methods to detect presence/absence, and insects will be identified in the field.

How to sign up: Please reply to this email if you would like to volunteer. Include your daily availability (between June 23-27), the specific times you can be in the field, and your cell phone number so I can organize a group text for the team.

Thank you, I look forward to hunting bugs with you all.

Best,

James Frakes
