The Big Picture

Overview and Maps

The Colorado River is over 1,400 miles long. Its source is in Rocky Mountain National Park right here in Grand County and it emptied in to the sea of Cortez east of Baja California until we started using up 100% of its water. Are you confused about the "big picture" of the Colorado River? What is its course through the southwest? Where does its water go?

For answers to these questions and much more, the National Geographic has a great deal of information and maps you can access by clicking here. You'll need to create a free account with National Geographic. Be sure to look around on their site and check out the National Geographic article about local TU president Kirk Klancke by following this link.
